TIPS FOR HEALTHY HAIR

Maintaining sleek, glossy hair can be greatly influenced by the products and methods you use when washing it. Dermatologists offer these easy suggestions to help you keep your hair healthy.

Wash hair that is oily more often

The amount of oil your scalp produces should determine how frequently you wash your hair.

  • You might need to wash your scalp once a day if it is oily.
  • You might want to wash your hair less frequently if you have chemically treated hair because it might be drier.
  • You might not need to shampoo as frequently as you think as your scalp produces less oil as you age.
  • However, you might not be shampooing your hair enough if you notice flakes in it. Dandruff and other scalp conditions may result from this.
  1. Concentrate shampoo on the scalp. Washing the entire length of your hair is not necessary; instead, focus on cleaning the scalp. Washing your hair alone can result in dull, coarse flyaway hair.

  2. Use conditioner after every shampoo. Unless you use a "2-in-1" shampoo that cleans and conditions hair, use conditioner. Through increased shine, reduced static electricity, increased strength, and partial UV protection, using a conditioner can dramatically improve the appearance of weathered or damaged hair.

  3. Concentrate conditioner on the tips of the hair.Conditioners should only be applied to the tips of fine hair; they should not be used on the scalp or the length of the hair because they can make fine hair appear limp.
  4. Choose a shampoo and conditioner formulated specifically for your hair type. Use a shampoo made specifically for color-treated hair, for instance, if you color your hair. Think about using a "2-in-1" shampoo if your hair has been chemically treated or is damaged. Many brands of shampoo and conditioner offer the same advantages, regardless of price.

  5. Protect hair when swimming.   Wet and condition your hair before swimming to shield it from the damaging effects of chlorine. Put on a form-fitting swim cap and replenish moisture lost in your hair after swimming by using a deep conditioner and shampoo designed specifically for swimmers.
